FOR UNIVERSITIES AND RESEARCH INSTITUTES
Do you have a research result with implementation potential? Secure protection before you publish it
Publication is the natural goal of any research — but if you disclose a result before you secure it, you irreversibly lose the chance of a patent. I help universities, institutes and research teams protect and commercialise their research results. I am a patent attorney and, at the same time, an active scientist — so I understand your world from the inside, not just from a legal standpoint.
PLN 0 — initial conversation. Everything you share stays confidential — and here confidentiality is what protects the novelty of your result.
FIG. 01 / PUBLICATION VS PROTECTION
Publish or protect? I know this dilemma from the inside
Public disclosure destroys novelty
This is one of the hardest moments in the life of many research results. On one side, the pressure to publish — because publications mean points, evaluation and academic standing. On the other, a hard rule of patent law: public disclosure of a solution destroys its novelty, and without novelty there is no patent. A single conference talk or an article before filing is enough to irreversibly close the path to protection.
It's not about not publishing. It's about the order. The two can usually be reconciled — as long as you secure the result before you show it. I have more than 100 publications behind me and I am a patent attorney, so I know this dilemma from both sides. I'll help you set the order so that you lose neither the protection nor the credit.
FIG. 02 / WHO YOU'RE TALKING TO
You're talking to someone who works in science too
I'm not an attorney who knows academia only from the outside. I hold a Doctor of Science (habilitated) in materials engineering and I head the Department of Polymer Materials Engineering at the Kazimierz Wielki University.
I have more than 100 publications and over 2,000 citations. I know the procedures, the evaluation, the grant requirements and the way technology transfer works — because I live in it every day. I talk to you in your language, not in legal jargon alone.
That's why my clients include, among others
FIG. 03 / FROM RESEARCH TO REVENUE
From research result to implementation and revenue
Protection isn't an end in itself — it's the condition for a research result to earn. I help you go the whole way from discovery to commercialisation.

01
Ownership
First, clarity on who owns the result
Before you commercialise anything, ownership has to be settled — between the university, the creators and any consortium. Without that, commercialisation falls apart. I help put it in order.

02
Form of protection
Then the right form of protection
Not everything is worth patenting — some results are better protected as know-how. I'll advise what to choose, looking at the result from the technical side as well.

03
Commercialisation
Finally, commercialisation
A licence, a sale of rights or a spin-off — I help shape the strategy and prepare for the talks.
IP protection strategies →
I work both with technology transfer offices and directly with research teams and smaller institutes that don't have a TTO of their own.
FIG. 04 / GRANTS AND EVALUATION
Protection that works for grants and evaluation
Points where they count for the institution
A well-secured research result is not only potential revenue — it's also points where they count for the institution. More and more grant competitions require an IP protection and commercialisation plan, and patents and implementations count in the evaluation of research quality. I help prepare the substantive part: an assessment of the result's potential, a protection plan and the technical basis for the application.

How we start
If you have a result you want to publish or implement — reach out before you disclose it. The initial conversation is free; I'll tell you whether you need to protect it first or whether you can publish with peace of mind, and what form of protection makes sense. The earlier, the more options stay on the table.
